Skyhorse Publishing, led by President and Publisher Tony Lyons, has closed a deal with Heresy Press, whose mission is to publish “unfettered literature for open-minded readers.”
Heresy Press will operate as an imprint within the Skyhorse family, publishing six unapologetically free-spirited works of fiction per year that will show the world that novels don’t have to be instruments of social justice or manuals of virtue but simply compelling stories. The founder of Heresy Press, Bernard Schweizer, will continue to implement the press’s original mission as director of the new Skyhorse imprint, while enjoying complete editorial independence.
Concerned with mainstream publishing’s slide into politically correct timidness and mandatory identity essentialism, Bernard and his wife, Liang Schweizer, founded Heresy Press almost two years ago. “There’s a hunger for liberated literature that tests boundaries, including unabashedly funny and blasphemous stories,” said Bernard Schweizer. This dictum will be put to the test by the slate of books forthcoming from Heresy Press: Devil Take It by Daniel Debs Nossiter, Shibboleth by Thomas Peermohamed Lambert, and Michael Liska’s debut Alice, or the Wild Child.
Schweizer concluded that “Skyhorse, with its explicit commitment to viewpoint diversity, is the perfect partner to help bring Heresy Press products to an ever growing and enthusiastic audience.”
Tony Lyons spoke about the future partnership and said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to welcome Bernard and Heresy Press to the Skyhorse family.”
